Keukenhof2Spring into 2018 with a delightful weekend which includes a visit to the world–famous bulb fields at Keukenhof (Dutch for 'kitchen garden'), a former country estate which is now one of the largest and most famous spring gardens in the world where more than seven million flowering bulbs combine in an abundance of colour and fragrance that would make anyone's head reel.

DelftThe 80–acre park's speciality is the Netherlands' national flower, the tulip, and it can be found in a hundreds of different varieties, boasting both common and unusual shades. There's even a "Walk of Fame" consisting of tulips named after famous people. In many areas of the park, these beautiful and distinctive blooms are complemented by 87 different varieties of tree, as well as many other species of flowering and perennial plants, ornate water features and inspirational sculptures. Each year Keukenhof takes on a different theme and uses its flora to create artwork based around it. The park hosts nine weeks of exhibitions between March and May from a wealth of breeders, growers and sellers, most of which are connected to the theme.

Keukenhof3During your Dutch weekend you'll also have time to explore Amsterdam, with an optional canal cruise, a visit to Delft, famous for 400 years as a centre of excellence in ceramic ware, free time in the Netherlands' seat of government, The Hague, and time to look around the pretty fishing village of Volendam.
